    • Is the GD php extension installed and enabled on the new server? If you would upload an image to the files sections and this image shows no resized thumbnails either, this is the likely reason. You can test this only by uploading an image file not by uploading other types of files.

      Or post_max_size and/or memory_limit are set too small (or at least smaller than on the old server). Creating the resized avatars/images requires lot of memory depending on the image resolution. Check the values of post_max_size and memory_limit set in Elgg's .htaccess and also check if these values are used (see the "Server info" page in the admin section of your site). Depending on the server configuration (suphp/suexec used?) the values of php variables defined in .htaccess files might not be considered. In this case you would have to set the values in the php.ini of your server.
