There have been no reports of this type of problem with the latest Elgg pages plugin.

That doesn't appear to be an Elgg specific problem. Have you googled it?

I am using version 1.7.  The settings.php is in the engine directory, and im getting the install page.  How can I see if my server is not reading it?  Also, if I do fill in the install page again, does that mean all data is lost?  Thanks.

You might have been getting to many hits to your database,and the elgg page will tell you your user creditials aren't correct.I changed that in the  lang. file to say mysite.com is temorarily unavailable,we'll be back soon.
