Hi, I'm not quite sure if I should be asking this question here.  If not, could someone please direct me to the proper location to ask for help?  Thanks. Here's the problem:  I added some javascript in header.php like anyother...
    • @Rene.. If you still havent solved the probem, can we have a url so that we can have a look..?

This shouldn't be a complicated thing to fix, but we first need to have a look at a live page.

      Chhers.

    • This can be terribly difficult to track down because what's happening is this:

Somewhere, in some file, there has been a chunk of PHP that didn't get "turned on" correctly, so it is causing a stray ? to be output.  This could be in any PHP file--not just views.

I'd recommend re-uploading Elgg, turning off simplecache, then adding your modified files one at a time to see which one it is.  Tedious, but effective.

Also, http://pastebin.org is your friend for long chunks of code ;)

    • First, thank you to Dhrup for helping me.  And, thank you for the others who offered to help!!

@Carlos -- I would have given a link to a live page except there is none.  As stated in my original post, this is on my server on my computer.  I don't think you can access http://127.0.0.1 except on your own computer/server.

We, Dhrup and I, were never able to track down where the problem was/is.  And as Brett said in some file there's a chunk of PHP that wasn't being "turned on" correctly and hence the stray "?".

So, Dhrup directed me to this plugin of his:  http://community.elgg.org/pg/plugins/Dhrup2000/read/261149/zextender-v-01-gt-custom-css-now-also-js-meta-

That worked like a charm!!  Thank you!!  I deleted the theme I was using then uploaded a fresh copy of it and everything worked like a charm---no space above the elgg_toolbar using Dhrup's plugin as instructed.
It still bugs me as to why and what happened.  I will keep searching for an answer to this problem in my spare time and if and when I find out what the problem was, I will certainly let you (everyone) know.
Thanks again!!  Very nice work on your plugin Dhrup!!!!!!!!!!
