It seems to be a caching issue. If the issue is caused by and 3rd party plugin, I can't say without more information. You could run yoursite.url/upgrade.php. Or you could disable simple cache and filepath cache in Site Administration - this should still work even with the messed up page layout. If it's a caching issue it should vanish then and you can enable caching again.
@reg190 what version of Elgg are you using? What other 3rd party plugins do you have installed? Also, what is your hosting?
Are you using a custom theme?

Think this is due to a css issue. there can be a theme. Try disabling all non core plugins and run the upgrade script
I'm fine with that. I did look at the widget canvas but was totally confused. Really, all I want to do is "merge" the left and center widget columns into one so it'd be one large column on the left and a single normal sized column on the right.
Can you offer any help for that?
I've got a similiar problem to do. Anybody any idea? On the dashboard, I would like the middle and right column as one large column...
