Its in default elgg language file: elgg/languages/en.php

search members in that file.

Hope you found it, I was having similar problems, then discovered most of the actual wordings are in the En.php files, like Balijeet mentioned..  Also you can download a free software called notepad++ and use find in files, it will search for text in a bunch of php files etc

Uncheck simple cache and system cache in your site settings while editing. Go to Admin > Settings > Advanced Settings.

or flush cache after upload (on admin dashboard)
