We block IP addresses....
Thanks for the replies everyone. Much appreciated. I've just installed the webgalli registration disable plugin as an interim measure. The sys admin for the webserver I'm using has blocked some of the IP addresses. I will test out one of the captcha plugins, as it would be nice to have registration open.
Make sure that the forward is sending the browser to the canonical URL. IE is very bad about handling URLs that vary with http:// and http://www
Got it sorted. It was a combination of webserver config, dns entries and elgg config. Thanks for the pointer.
Thanks for responding. The problem is the messageboard doesn't appear anywhere a non-admin user can see it. It isn't an option on the Tools drop down menu, or when editing the dashboard. It has also disappeared from the Default Dashboard Widget page.
The Messageboard widget only appeared briefly on the Default Dashboard Widget page (under the Administration menu). It was there after I cleared the mod folder back to it's original state. I navigated away to test it on a new user, and when I logged back in as an admin, the Messageboard widget was no longer present.
messageboard widget should only be available for profile pages - not dashboard pages.
Ah, it all makes sense now. I hadn't realised there was a separate profile view. Many Thanks Cash.
