I think the access options for content and having to choose a group for the permissions might cause this. Personally my experience is that the access control lists are just too confusing for an end-user. view reply

Being able to see content means that the access level on that content has been set to public. Some sites show menus that lead to this public content as an incentive to join. If the visitor wants to add content, e.g. a blog that... view reply

Is there a way to disable comments on wiki pages that you create? I just want the users to read what's written and not write comments about it. Thanks in advance!

  in /mod/pages/views.php there is:
  //add comments
  $body .= elgg_view_comments($pages);
  just comment out the $body line
