Ok I put the plugin river comments elgg 1.8.8 and the double comments stopped doubling but the ones that were there still remained...I had to revert to the default theme to delete them as they had no delete link or cross icon on them to delete them. The default theme is only one that had one. Any rate the doubling is solved with that plugin installed ... this is the link to it in the recommened plugins
