1.5 to 1.6 is very simple--Just delete the header.php file that was probably included in the theme.

Anything less than 1.5 will be a bit more complicated because of changes to the structure of the views and CSS.  Unfortunately I don't have any specifics, but if you're willing to dig in it shouldn't be too difficult--it will take time, however.

Have you considered taking the default 1.6.1 theme and using it? I am suggesting turning it into a plugin of course.

  I just uploaded a plugin for 1.6.1 if you want to see what I mean. Its not pretty...but you'll get the idea.
