you could ask chris14679 who has claimed 40 million user base on a single server.. ;) we have got only about 214,000 on single server.. however if " it's not likely.." why do you ask ? ;-P
There are a lot of threads here about Elgg scalability. There's also a short discussion on the wiki: http://docs.elgg.org/wiki/Scalability
Basically, you will need dedicated hosting and a development team to fine tune Elgg for a million users. This is true for any web application.
Thanks.
@ DhrupDeScoop : I ask because of course I would like to launch such a succesfull service and want to make sure that if I win the lottery... you know ;-)
@ Brett : Great, it's exactly what I wanted to know. Maybe a bullet point should be added saying "Elgg can support X million users with an optimised and dedicated platform, so you can leave theses concerns aside for a while and start working with Elgg"
I just paste the last paragraph of your link here :
Final thoughts
Finally, as covered here, the "does Elgg support X million users", this is probably not the question you should be trying to solve first.
If you are lucky enough to have that problem however, you should probably take a look at your infrastructure first, and the software second.
There is also an argument that that it is best to not worry about it too much until it starts becoming a problem.
