It is probably the case that I have improperly coded *sigh*.

While I'd rather not admit it, I believe the issue is with the way I commented out lines in the css file.
In order to keep a record of what I changed, I thought it would be great to leave the original value commented and add my new value. Unfortunately, this was accomplished like so:
wrong:
color: #FFFFF; //#000000;
CSS likes /* */ comments, so...
Right:
color: #FFFFF; /* #000000; */
I thought I found a good way to comment. And in php it probably is. But in CSS not so much.
I'm hoping that someone will see this and avoid this mistake in the future.
Several IDEs have shortcut keys for (context-aware) toggling the commenting of the current/selected lines. Comm+/ on Mac.
