Elgg has its own way of language translation which is much better than google translate. You can find many plugins here in the community which will let you to create language packs for your site. Some are outdated. But some of them are working. Go through the comments section of those plugin before downloading.

Elgg uses MyISAM which supports FULLTEXT. Any normal install of Elgg uses that unless someone changes the table type.

Hi guys why cant you release a plugin for Tamil Pack.. That will be grate... It will be usefull..

there is a plugin of Webgalli for all indian languages... try that...
