So, it's very unlikely a problem of Elgg or any plugins. It's also unlikely to be a problem of the server if it works for others. Most likely it's a problem of the encoding to be used by the browser. I already suggested this to you in the message I wrote to you. You might check if it works using a different browser or at least check what the encoding is that is configured in your browser. You have to set it to UTF8.
