If you want to use two "blog" plugins in parallel, you could start coding them from the beginning. But this could take a while. Maybe the better way would be to take the bundled blog plugin as a starting point. What you would need to do to customize it is to rename "blog" for example to "article" whereever it occurs in the files and filenames. This includes renaming the function names, entity subtype and modifying the language strings accordingly. In the end you would have a plugin called "article" that has exactly the same functionality as the blog plugin and can be used in parallel.
