  I'm not sure I understand your issue. However, the standard solution for no default value in a pulldown field is to create an option with the value "" and the label something like "None". Put that as the first item of your list.

  There's been nothing released that deals to cater for SEO in Elgg.
  Some people have *talked about whatthey have done, but not published their code here. There is one PlugIn "MetaTags" (I think) floating around somewhere.
