The previous version was tested in ELGG 1.8.1 and displayed a LOT of errors in 1.8.3. This version corrects some deprecated functions and directory structures. Please update as soon as possible and sorry for the mistakes.

@iionly: The plugin does a manual check. Just go to administer->utilities->manage updates.
@R Cerceau: Language file patched and deprecated functions removed. Thanks.
@Richard: Thanks for your feedback. Everything will run fine now.
@All: The plugin checks for new plugin releases and don´t checks new ELGG releases.
Very good work!

Working thanks!!
@Cerceau: Thanks for the feedback. I will check your layout. The data should be correct. I will make some tests here.
@Cerceau: Check the time in your server. Tested here without issues:
Utilities : Manage Updates
Next check: 2012/02/03 13:31
No updates available
@Cerceau, I also had this when I first installed the plugin, flushed the Cache and checked again and it was displaying correct time...
You are the man!!!
@Cerceau: The plugin shows the correct date after the cron first run. Wait one hour. :)
@Gustavo: No, you are the man. I am newbie here. :)
Just a suggestion: It will be better to use a daily cron instead of a hourly cron.
@Purus:
Everything in the life has a reason. :)
The plugin schedules a random date and hour. Example: 2012-02-12 10:53
We need to check the schedule date in a hourly basis. If I check once a day, the update check will be always at midnight.
In a shared environment with dozens of ELGG installations, this could cause a server overhead. And could cause a overhead in ELGG site. So the random schedule resolve it. Every site in the world checks in a different day and hour.
Good thought. :)
You once again proved I am dumb :D
Thanks man! This was what i suggested in the groups and thought it would never be made! Recommended! :) You the man!
Elgg 1.8 version produces many, many deprecated warnings in server log:
register_plugin_hook() --------> elgg_register_plugin_hook_handler()
register_elgg_event_handler() ---------> elgg_register_event_handler()
I will check. Thanks.
Hi - wondering if deprecated warnings have been corrected before I install into my system? I am not a coder, so would apprecaite advice if resolved. Thanks so much.

The deprecated warnings have not been fixed in the version available here, but a fixed version is available at https://github.com/TheTrueBumba/elgg_update_services.
i'm still seeing the next check date as being: Next check: 1970/01/01 01:00
i uncommented the line in start.php to test the plugin and it made no difference.. i also flushed the caches. this is with elgg 1.8.8
@Ura soul: Do you have the cron enabled?
i saw the message in the description above about cron, but no more details anywhere.. there's no cron plugin in elgg 1.8 so i'm not sure what is needed to be done.. is there a description/note on it somewhere?
Look in the elgg instalation guide. ELGG requires a few cron configurations to work properly.
@rua ' no cronplugin in 1.8 ??' -->
C:\xampp\htdocs\Elgg1860_BASE\engine\lib\cron.php !
ah ok yes, i read the installation notes, no mention of cron in there in 1.8.8.
that lib file exists, yes.. and an example file in the documents folder; i've never use cron directly..
can someone post what they have added for this plugin with cron to get it to work?
thanks
