Depending on what you want to change you can do a lot. But without changes you can't assign points to a group. It would also depend on what points exactly you want a group to have. I assume you want to count points for actions done within a group by the group members, right? Then you would have to check on awarding of points if the action is something related to a group and then maybe add the points not only to the user but also to a counter of the group. And you might want to display the number of points of a group also on it's group profile page.
A lot is possible. I wouldn't do any work though in this matter as I'm fully happy with the current state of the plugin as it does what I need, so you would have to add any new functionality on your own or hire some developer (I don't do any jobs for hire in general btw.).
