You can try to run the freichat in no conflict option. Go the the freichat admin panel > chat admin and enable this option.

When I deactivate freichat within the plugins menu, it does not remove the chat window. The plugin activate/deavtivate option seems to be useless. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Yes, you can use the any version of freichat. just follow the upgarde information

Where is it sending your information elsewhere?  Frei-chat needs access to your settings.php because it creates 2 tables on your database (not someone elses) that contains things that are a little important for it to function (like the chat log for instance).

Webgalli is simply stating that the bulk of the plugin is a third party library, so they can't and won't be responsible for bugs/problems in it.  I can appreciate that.

Don't like it? Don't trust it? Then don't use it, make your own or pay someone to do it (a non-American of course, you know, so they don't steal everything).

I have installed it on the elgg 1.8.3- I can't use the Modular modification and i've made the manual, but i can't see the chat in my home. The directory is not the same that is indicated but is page/elements and in the header.php i can't find the tag header. In the option page i have this message

@martille : for the deprecated message, use the latest version. We can offer you support for the released plugin only. If you need support for standalone version, contact evnix team. they offer free installation services

I can understand your fear of your data and credentials being collected (Its the same for me when I install a chrome/firefox extension). 

We don't collect any of your DB credentials. The settings.php file is read only to copy the DB credentials from your settings.php file to the arg.php file. This is just to make the installation process easier.

You can check the code for yourself in ~/freichat/installation/params.php . There is a function named elgg_conf(). you can see what it does exactly with your DB credentials.

It is the same when Elgg asks you for your DB credentials during the installation. The thing that has to be remembered is that FreiChatX is a seperate program, so it must have its own copy of the DB credentials(in the arg.php file) just as Elgg has its own copy(in the settings.php file)

This should clear any of your doubts/fears about FreiChatX. let us know if you have any other doubts/queries regarding this software.
