[Elgg 1.8-1.12 & 2.X & 3.X: Extended TinyMCE] vElgg_1.8_4.1.1_r41

Release Notes

  • Updated to Tinymce version 4.1.1.
  • What is the advantage of using TinyMCE editor vs CKeditor in your opinion? I've noticed that TinyMCE has a lot of cool features and addons and it is easy to modify. But I haven't had time to play with CKeditor.

Why ever did they change CKeditor for Elgg 1.9?

  • @Darth Vader: don't ask me why Tinymce was replaced by CKeditor. The decision was made based on the discussion at https://github.com/Elgg/Elgg/issues/4014. I don't see any advantage of using CKeditor over Tinymce. On the other hand you might lose backward compatibility if you switch to CKeditor if you modified / extended Tinymce on Elgg 1.8.

As long as there're no problems with Tinymce on future versions of Elgg, I'll stay on Tinymce for sure. For Elgg 1.9 it already works using this extended Tinymce plugin here.
