Following Starphysique statement of creating a new manifest file. I edited the original file and replaced all text with the following and it works perfectly.

Hello, this plugin is great over 1.7! But I really need for my project on Elgg 1.8.When will you get the real version for Elgg 1.8?

I am getting the same error as @rsaneas, I assume it will be taken care of with the 1.8 update?

It does work on 1.8.4.

Initially it gives this error "manifest file is not standard" etc. But even so when you activate it works. To get rid of that message, just change the manifest file by Starphysique 's contents.

As someone who never understood the use of "friend" plus "friend of" concepts (they sound reflection of technical implementations), this is a good plug-in.

wish list:

- You can only see a friend request notification on the "Friends" page and not on other pages. Maybe to receive it as a message or even better as an indication on the "friends" symbol at the top (these two small people?).

- If two people ask to be friends of each other (almost) simultaneously, or just do not see the existing request from the other, you end up with two requests awaiting confirmation. It would be more practical if you ask to be friends with someone who already sent you a friend request, your request to count as acceptance of the other's request.

Good plug-in!

How to notify users of friend request if the site messages and emails are switched off elgg 1.8?

I used the friend request (link bellow) on my 1.7 site worked a treat as it has a friend request indicator on the top bar found that very usful.
