@John - that code worked perfectly.  I added it to both the profile and dashboard and it was great.  If you have suggestions on what I can study to understand elgg commands (PHP basics, elgg code repository), perhaps some items will start to fall in place for me.  Thanks once again.  If I could award points to you I would!

Maybe, but I've looked at the related code and the answer hasn't come to me yet. There's still a lot I don't understand about it. I do a lot of trial and error.

@wynne. Embed plugin had some known bugs by elgg. They have been removed in bug fix beta version of elgg 1.8. Embed works perfectly now. Get the latest elgg 1.8.1 beta version.

I have been using Elgg on and off for about a year, and just now joined this site... I am running the latest 1.8, and v1.2 of this plugin... Works great... 

The only issue, is that unlike FB itself, there is no oEmbed functionality (There is a tutorial on basic oEmbed here, but I can't make sense of it, as I am no coder) and the wire does not live update (which is what I believe is part of the project of Ajaxify Elgg, of O read it correctly). 

I wanted to address the issue thogh of the FB theme itself, as it is the best looking, and so far best working theme I have used for 1.8...

I have spent hourse researching the legal standing of a lookalike to facebook, and it is somewhat simple.

It would be illegal if you wish to 'pretend' to be part of or represent Facebook (i.e. a similar url, name, and otherwise branded site) that could confuse visitors. I doubt anyone who would use this theme would have to worry about incurring the wrath of FB, as it would not be any threat to its MILLIONS of users -

I do have an issue though, and it is confusing me - as far as the pages, is there a way to make them look like a profile page, with an avatar, and basically their own on site personality as on FB? If that is an Elgg possiblity, rather than a theme or plugin... I apologize..

@John - thanks again.  Now I need to add another box to sidebar_alt and stick links to other urls in it.  In addition, I need to figure out how to embed another element like juitter in sidebar!

i installed the theme and noticed that the log in screen started showing up messed up and i was unable to log in anymore here is what i got.

i also tried removing the theme and it still didnt help i still got the same thing and now i dont have access to any thing on the site

The screenshots you added are for the forgot password form. Just run http://yoursite.com/upgrade.php script after installing and uninstalling a theme.

@El_capitrucho just turn off the Restrict pages to logged in the advanced settings it should solve your problem

i'm new on elgg, i would like to know 2 things:

What i have to modify to have the button Add widget on the right sidebar ? Like it is on the default elgg1.8 theme.

Why the 1.2 release is marked as 1.0 in the dashboard (hte manifest.xml file is not modified since the 1.0 release i think) ?

i managed to reinstall everything and get it working again although i did notic on the log in screen that there are 2 areas to log in on on the top and one on the left

would it be possible to remove the log in option from the top or did i do something wrong? 

EL_CAPITRUCHO: To remove the login top you have to comment line 12 of file facebook_theme / views / default / page / elements / header.php

calibal: To add things in the right sidebar you must edit the file: facebook_theme / views / default / page / elements / sidebar_alt.php
