Release Notes

2.2 (2012-03-02):

  • added: now also handling emails send by elgg_send_email
  • added: option to configure sendmail options
  • the 1st screenshot for this makes the plugin look as if it is designed to allow admins to design mail messages from within the admin pages.. i haven't located a page like that anywhere.. did i mis interpret the way the email format is intended to be designed?

There is no admin page where you can design the layout of your HTML mails. From the plugin description:

to customise it for your own theme overrule the view default/html_email_handler/notification/body.php

  • ah so the screenshot is from an html editor?

No, it's an example of how the email will appear in your e-mail client. And it can be used to design the email template for your theme (goto <your site url>html_email_handler/test or if you have the developer tools enabled Admin -> Develop -> Tools -> Theming sandbox).

  • ahaaa! i see, thanks.

    i've themed the messages successfully..
i noticed that there is an elgg_is_logged_in clause around the footer box..
doesn't that mean that if i am not logged in and i received a notification that someone has messaged me, that the footer text will not be rendered..? and it will be if i am logged in?
yet when i log out, the link will remain in the email.. the 'state' has been disconnected as it is out of the browser and into a record in the email app.. or am i missing some aspect of this?

    thanks

This clause checks if the sender is logged in.

Reason: if you register or forgot your password you're not logged in and you can't go to the notification settings. When someone sends you a message you have an account and thus can set the notification setting.

  • ah, oh yes.. thanks for clarifying.

you can use the "-f" option to set the from adres (like -fsomeemailaddress@yoursite.tld) or use "-r" to set the returnpath (like -rsomeemailaddress@yoursite.tld).

If your mails are marked as spam also check if you have a SPF record in your DNS (http://www.openspf.org/Tools). This tells spamfilters where mails from your domain are allowed to come from.

  • Can we display images in the mail body uing this plugin, if yes plz let me know how can i acheive that

Sure as long as the images are in img tags. If you want to "embed" the images this could also work, but I don't have experience with that.

  • I like this plugin, this does the same thing as facebook emails do?

Any email preview? or demo or screen shots please?

Because the attached images does not show the final email :)

  • @kisssssss4ever:

Any email preview? or demo or screen shots please?

I'll upload a new preview image soon. You can go to <your site address>/html_email_handler/test to preview a message.

  • @Jerome Bakker thanks the image is displaying but notification like who like your picture, who commented on youe pic and etc are not displaying in the mail, as it was displaying before. Can u plz tell me how to add those

  • Thanks @Jerome Bakker its working fine now

  • I want to send out a mail almost 1000 members. But the mail never comes..

Is this because of the script, a firewall on the server or something else?

Do the mails come with this plugin disabled? If yes, then it's the script. If no then it's the server or something else.

  • Is there some specific reason why "email, system" plugin hook is never triggered in the plugin? Would it cause problems with other plugins or did you just feel that it's not needed?

The absence of the hook makes it impossible to use some other email related plugins at the same time since your plugin completely replaces the notification handler for email notifications.

Do you think you could add the trigger for the hook?
