What you can do to help:

Manage custom language translations for Elgg and other plugins.

This plugin takes custom language translations out of the "languages" directory.  Instead of adding a "languages/ja.php" script when you want to add Japanese support to your site, for example, you can use xlatmgr to create the new translation.  Or if you prefer to call your site's main page "Launch Pad" instead of "Dashboard", you can easily override Elgg without editing "languages/en.php".  Custom translations are saved under Elgg data directory, so they are not lost when a site is upgraded.

The screenshot images illustrate how to change the title of the blog widget from "Blog" to "Borg".
