The only thing I consider this excellent plugin to lack is the ability to preset the security settings in each individual profile field. Sometimes it is neccessary to impose a security setting on a particular profile field and its a bit of a pain in the butt doing it for every new user.
Looking to reorganize my Profile Fields, but apparently 3 of them have become corrupt and I cannot remove them. I have the latest version on a new fresh site ... any suggestions?
Umby
how do you edit about me on your profile users are complaining they can not edit about me : (, should i just delete about me?
http://community.elgg.org/discussion/view/1524382/i-can-not-edit-about-me-on-my-profile-and-my-users-can-not-either-how-do-i-edit-about-me
I already created 2 profile types, the type A and the type B besides the Default (existing) profile; how i can create 2 links for register in my site, when a user choose to register in the form A this will be saved as the profile type A and when choose register in the form B will be saved as profile type B.
I would like to do this directly in the registration, because i want to add extra and different fields for each profile type.
oh by the way my issue was fixed in the last link i posted here, just put no for default profile otherwise i dont know @Melvyn
i already did the thing about choose which type of profile the user want to be, but i still have some problems that i will mention later; but how i can edit the registration form, maybe applying my own css?
@Melvyn Gómez , flush your cache or run yourwebsite.com/upgrade.php
I have installed this plugin and was happy to add new profile fields to the registration forum.
The problem is that, the "Terms and Conditions check box" is not getting alligned properly. Is it possible to have this before the register button instead of being in middle of the registration form. If yes, please guide me on how to do it.
In addition to the above issue, the register link in the home page is not working after installing the plugin "profile manager"
If I hover my mose to the link "register" I can see that that it is linked to the registration page but when I click on it it is not responding. Please help me in solving this.
I have raised the same issue in Elgg technical support (http://community.elgg.org/discussion/view/1530192/how-to-make-questions-in-profile-required-etc) and I was asked to raise the issue in profile manager page as this could be due to some bug...
Dear Jeroen Dalsem,
1. How could we disallow special characters and accents for the username field?
ñ , Ñ , á , Á , à , À , é , É , è , È , ó , Ó , ò , Ò , ú , Ú , ù , Ù , ü , Ü , € , $ , etc.
2. How could we disallow up-case letters?
3. How could we disallow specific usernames?
administrator, admin, moderator, help, support, etc.
Also would be great for the users to have this option into the Profile Manager Configuration menú,
a field where we can input all this characters and other field where we could input the disallowed usernames, that I imagine that is not so easy to do.
If we could do it editing some file, tell us the path to the file and some clues, please.
Thanks a lot for your help!
Regards.
how i can get the ID from the default profile?
Hi,
Any help with regard to the issue (bug issue) as mentioned above....
@marius currently there is no control over usernames. I believe this should be part of another plugin which handles all account related stuff (like username / password policies). Profile Manager will not be handling this.
@Melvyn there is no id for a default profile. NO id is default.
@ajay the position of the terms and condition is currently by choice. I'm not going to chance it now, but will reconsider it for Elgg 1.9. Your other bug report is fixed in github. You could download the latest build there and test if it fixes your problem.
If I sent the new users to the register page bij an email link, everything wordks fine.
If a new user wants to register from the loginpage. It will see the register page but not the stars. And also after every mistake they are send back to the blank login page.
Why is this?
@stLucas i'm guessing you have your site in the so called "walled garden" modus, where all page require a login. If that is the case, there are some know issues with this which are fixed in the development version on github. You can download it from github.com/coldtrick/profile_manager if you can't wait for a release on this community.
Indeed Jeroen, The site is in "walled garden" modus. I will try the development version on my tryout version of the site. Thank you.
@Jeroen, today I found a nice field type rating in your plugin. So I tried it and it works offcourse. But the only user that can rate its profile is the owner (or admin). Isn't that a bit strange ? Dat is als "Wij van WC eend bevelen WC eend aan" (For the englisch people, a line in a dutch funny commercial where the company recommends itself).
Maybe I mis interpret this feature, can you explain the intended purpose ?
Gerard, I think you are misunderstanding the use of this field.
Rating a profile should be done by other plugins, since the profile manager fields are only used for the profile owner to tell 'something' to the visitors.
The rating could be used for example in specifying how good experienced there skills are for instance in for that particular domain, or if you asked what language they know, they can specify how well they know it,...
(for the Dutchspeaking). WC eend kan dus zeggen waar ze beter en slechter in zijn, en dit meedelen aan het publiek.
@driesdk, I see. I will look for a plugin then that provides users to vote on profiles like five starx does for content.
I can't get the custom metadata when the user isn't validated yet.

Anything I can do about that?
Hello
I'm wondering what I am missing
@nefea just like it says the profile manager should be AFTER the profile plugin
Hello All,
I would like to make multiple alias of any user. Like User A have 2 alias in the system like A and B.
When user wants to post anything then he/she has to select alias for display, if he selects A then displayed as A posted something, else if he selects B then displayed as B posted something.
But internally it goes to same user. So user can edit/delete that post.
Is this possible with any plugin?
Thanks!
Hi All
I am trying to use this Plugin for a Resume' Storing and Searching kind of functionality. People will enter different data ( Name, Function, Job role, Sector, Qualification, location, CV etc.. ) and then any member of a Group ( say Recruiters, for eg. ) will be able to search all CVs on the various fields and then contact the people meeting those criteria directly.
has anybody done something similar - is it possible with this plugin - or any other ?
All pointers much appreciated.
Hello,
I have created some fields to be used as a report card for my users. I want admin/moderators (or a new group I create) to be able to modify these fields and not the users. I do however want the user to be able to view the contents, just not modify them.
Currently my options are to make them admin only but the user can't see them; or to make them read only but then they can not be edited even as admin.
Can this feature be added or is there some way to populate these fields through a DB call?
Thanks in advance...
