Simpleusermanagement v1.2

Release Notes

  • Removed possibility to extend default "User management" screen. Plugin is working in a standalone administration menu item.
  • Added search possibility (searches unvalidated users by username and name)
  • Added email change functionality.
  • Rethought the css styling, as a result everything looks a lot elggish.

NB! New version was developed and tested on Elgg 1.7. It has not be tested for compatibility with Elgg 1.6.1 (it might possibly be working fine with that version).

This one fixes small unclosed div problem. Also some small css fixes.

  • This is the fixed 1.2 version. That should not break any layouts.

  • I was trying to find something like this since a long time ago!

thank you!!!!, I will try it =)

  • Works fine with 1.7.1.

    Thanks!

  • @Pjotr

Can you post some pictures?  How is this different from siteAccess?

  • It only has a limited functionality, disabled/unvalidated user management. Uploaded some images.

  • ohh people with the question of images. The plugin work perfect not need more explanations

Congratulations nice job for missing feature

  • Nice plugin :)

@jacob - images always helps, as the understanding/ information, knowledge absorbing capacity of humans broadly lie in two sects - with images & with oral, verbal communication.

As a world-wide community here, we should satisfy both :)

    HaPPy ElGGinG :)

    Do GooD :)

  • Wow, that's a really cool plugin :-)

    Thanks !

  • yeah, like that too a lot : ) Thx!

  • Great plugin! 20% of my new users are unvalidated. I used this tool to try to re-connect with them. Getting new users is a very hard, very expensive process ... and just letting 20% of them disappear is very bad. So thanks again for this.

  • I might be doing something wrong, but this does not seem actually to Resend the Activation Emails. I used  that option yesterday for 20+ users. I also followed up with them from my Gmail account, telling them that I just resent, and to look out for it, possibly in their spam folder. Two of the people took the trouble to reply, saying "still no activation email."

Further, not even one of the people that I supposedly re-sent to came back and completed the process. I did not expect a large response, but not even 1 or 2 ...

Can anyone confirm for me that they have had success with the "Resend Activation Email" option?

  • Just checked that out. It is working. The plugin is using the logic of the "uservalidationbyemail" by making a direct call to the method/function responsible for sending the original mail in the first place. Is the server sending out the messages in the first place (I mean the initial messages or any others)? Are the email addresses you are trying to resend the activation email to working? Possibly there have been some typos made or something. Most of the unvalidated users seem to be in general ones who have made a typo while entering the email address in the first place. Resending emails to non-existent addresses won't really do the trick. Hope you can trace the problem.

  • Pjotr,

Sorry for delayed response. I conclude that the Activation Emails are ending up in the users' spam folder or are being removed by the email provider.

To be clear, most User Activations are successful. The server is sending out mail. And I delete users with invalid email addys.

It's a maddening problem, and I don't think any Elgg tool can solve it. I think it's a matter of getting the email providers (Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, etc.) to remove each new domain (like Brickcollections.com) from their "presumptive spammer" list. That is to say, they treat every new domain as if it might be a spammer, and it is the webmaster's problem to set up Domain Keys, establish a reputation, and gain users so that the providers will stop labelling our email as spam.

  • In case of email providers blocking emails: check blacklists (spamhaus.org etc.) if your server IP might be blacklisted (on a new site this could be due to the site that used this IP before). Use mechanisms like SPF, DomainKeys to allow email providers to validate your server. Ask your provider to enter the correct (non-default) parameters in the PTR record for reverse DNS lookup. In case you get Nondelivery notification emails (for example to the default email address of your CPanel admin account) check for the reasons why the email couldn't be delivered. Get in contact with the email providers in case they block your email and ask them to remove the blocking. You might also see if non-activated accounts on your site have an invalid email by looking at the nondelivery notifications.

  • PERFECT, THANKS Pjotr!!!! Recomended.

  • Just installed this on 1.6.3 and it seems to be working. Much easier way to delete spam users, thanks!

  • Great!I was able to clean up unvalidated users from 2 years ago!

  • Will this be available for 1.8.5?

If not is there anything else I could use to Administer all Users (list, delete, modify etc...) ?

  • No, this will be left as it is as there is no need for it within new Elgg versions. Unvalidated users management is integrated into the system core. Just go to administration and choose something like "User administration" from the menu. There should be a submenu "Unvalidated". This is the place that will let you do everything you need.

As for the user management. Well, there are other submenus that will let you do that. If you want to manage a user, just move to a profile link and choose the appropriate option from the administration menu.

    Hope that helps.
