Rename groups as communities v20091105
Release Notes
In response to a posting on the Elgg Development google group asking how to rename "groups" to "communities", we decided to adapt our contacts and colleagues plugins to provide this useful functionality to all Elgg Community members.
If either of the contacts and colleagues plugins are installed, this plugin should be deployed later in the plugin list to ensure it deals correctly with the (very few) cases where "friends" and "groups" language mappings co-exist.
As with contacts and colleagues, this plugin is fairly comprehensive for both Elgg and 3rd party plugins, but it is not guaranteed to be "feature complete".
So, if there are any glaring omissions, or new plugins making reference to "friend/friends", please post a comment and I will update the plugin accordingly and make a new release.

useful plugin thanks. I'm using the word "Society" instead of community, but very useful none the less.
A couple of plugins that should be adapted to this are the Tidypics PhotoAlbum plugin and the Poll plugin. They seem to be pretty standard these days.

is possible to change the group in the url? currently, it is displaying like this
http://localhost/elgg1.6/pg/groups/world/
i would like to change the groups to communities.

i said this before @ another post reL groups --> " axing for trouble - look at all those triggers, events, hooks related to "groups" in the start.php" ...... ps: i have adapted groups in this manner for another project. the code to watch out for is a mucho big headache.

I have to agree with Dhrup's subsequent comment that this would be a complicated job, and probably not worth the effort.
After all, users interact with the contents of a page, and are very much less focussed on it's URL. So it's probably less hassle to leave things as they are. However, in the end, it's up to you if you want to invest the time :-)

hi there for me plugins that should be adapted to this are "Event Calender" plugin that should be just "Events"," izap_video" plugin which is a great plugin for video uploading and sharing instead of izap_video it should be just "Videos".

SImple. Edit the file "languages/en.php" in the plugin, replacing any occurrence of "Community", etc in the mapped (right hand) string with the word "Artist", etc.
I already using groups plugin and I have to use same plugin with another name.
Can any one suggest me how can I do this?
hi there, I'm using 1.7.4 and thanks for the plugin! There's two instances (as far as I know) that groups are still displaying instead of communities:
1. On the drop down "Tools" tab
2. On the profile pages and on the dashboard - it still says Group Membership.
I've looked through all the files and compared it to the original Groups en.php file to see if anything's missing, but everything seems to be in order.
Perhaps someone can help point it out to me? Thanks so much in advance!
I changed everything in the plugin from "Communities" to "Sponsors" and "community" to "sponsor"
in all three .en files plus the start.php and the other one and nothing happens.

Looks like you got it changed my guess is the cache had to catch up?
Is there really only one release of this, no bug fix for the 2 bugs mentioned about and no support for the really popular plug ins polls, tiny pics and event calendar?
