Group Custom Layout v3.1

Release Notes

3.1 (2013-04-05):

  • added: plugin now requires the groups plugin
  • changed: version history now in CHANGES.txt
  • changed: ToDo now in README.md
  • changed: README.txt to README.md
  • changed: cleaned up manifest.xml
  • changed: code cleanup
  • changed: the way custom css is loaded, for better caching
  • i just tested this on my test site - 1.8.15.
the background image is not displaying - either on the live site or in the group custom layout settings panel..
i have tested with caches enabled and disabled.

also i noticed that the color settings for the widgets doesn't come through either as my theme includes '!important' statements next to the css tags for those elements, so gcl gets over-ridden. the version of gcl that i made for 1.7 elgg included '!important' tags and these would be effective in your version here also.

additionally, being able to set other parameters for the background image such as background-repeat etc. would be helpful. you could grab the code for that from my version also if you wanted to. i have too much to do beyond elgg to come back and update my version or do this coding myself.. so just some ideas for you if you to consider.
    thanks

  • Hi Jerome,

First of all thank you for this module.

I don't seem to get the mod working, after activating I don't see a settings tab/button on the groups page.

Am I doing something wrong? Using Elgg 2.8.16.

    Thanks , cheers,

    Jeroen

  • @Jeroen Wiggers:

    Hi Jerome,

First of all thank you for this module.

I don't seem to get the mod working, after activating I don't see a settings tab/button on the groups page.

Am I doing something wrong? Using Elgg 2.8.16.

Have you checked the plugin settings, to define which groups are allowed to have a custom layout.

  • After uploading, the directory needs to be renamed group_custom_layout (e.g. remove the 3.1)

  • but how do I figure out what kind of metadata my group has?

  • >>>>> USAGE HINT <<<<<

Honestly, the best way to get this plugin to work (and it works great by the way, even most 3rd party themes), is to install the latest version of Jeroen Dalsem's "Profile Manager".

Then, add a new Group Field named "group_custom_theme" and lebeled "Customize Group Theme". Select the "Radio" field type and enter "yes,no" for the options (pay special attention to all spellings and capitalizations). Then select "No" for tags, "Yes" for admin only field and "No" for blank option.

This allows every group admin to determine if they want to customize the group theme/layout as they please.

Next, goto the Settings for Group Custom Layout plugin and enter "group_custom_theme" (from above) and "yes" for the field value ... these fields MUST MATCH EXACTLY from your Group Fields above including any capitalizations.

    All done ... Umby
