  • The social network logos are not showing well. Can I replace them or what changes can be made to have them visible.

  • There are no social network logo's in this plugin. It is intented for search engines only.

  • I need advice on the following error:
My site was formerly running on a subfolder 'egsp', but I left that subfolder with elgg script in it after revert to hosting/running elgg directly on pub_html folder. Is it possible that the elgg scripts in the egsp folder could cause errors?
metatags (guid: 597360) cannot start and has been deactivated. Reason: Cannot include start.php for plugin metatags (guid: 597360) at /home/server/public_html/egsp/mod/metatags.

  • Did you check the path of the Elgg installation under Settings -> Advanced Settings

    It should state: /home/server/public_html/

If that is correct, check the Metatag plugin and see what is mention under "More Info" -> "Location"

    That should be /home/server/public_html/mod/metatags

    If so, activate the plugin.

  • The site elgg installation setting is correct as you specified.

More info is correct as follows:
    Categories: Enhancements
License: GNU General Public License version 2
    Location: /home/server/public_html/mod/metatags/
    TypeNameExpected ValueActual valueComment
    RequiresElgg version>=
    ProvidesPlugin: metatags 1.0.3--ok

May I should just delete the elgg script still in the former subfolder "egsp", as I dnt need.

  • I do not know what script you want to delete or not. But given the plugin info you should be able to activate it now.

  • There is a field for adding facebook I.D. Does it mean that the elgg site should have an account on each social site? If that is the case, then how would individual elgg site users share contents on social site that they have accounts?

  • There is no field for adding a facebook ID. You could add a tag

    <meta property="fb:app_id" content="xxxxxxxx" />

Where xxxxx should be your App ID if you have one. But the plugin is not providing anything for sharing on social networks.

  • I have submitted my site to google web master tool and its verified.

I ran the analysis and the report states that the metatag keywords are just 3 i.e my "site name" and "profile". How can I add more words?

http://analyzer.metatags.org/ report states that description and keywords are terrible. Where can I go to increase them?

When I design web pages with html, and use meta tag on each it with specific 'description' and 'keywords' for each page, the site pages get indexed properly.

How can this be achieved on elgg site?

  • Hi Gerard! I'm trying to make this work for the Event Manager plugin, but it doesn't seem to pickup the event owner profile image for the og:image

I tried it on the Market plugin and it seems to work perfectly. Any help on this?

  • @kxx4, you can enter a description and keywords for the front page in the admin settings of the plugin. All other pages are generated dynamically. I made an exception for the front page so admins can influence that important page in how they like it to be indexed. If the analyzer reports a terrible description and keywords, you should take a more descriptive line there. That means that the description line should very closely match what is seen on the page.

@bryan, please use the latest version of the plugin. I cannot support third party plugins, but it should work for event manager. I use event manager myself on different sites and if I open an event the og:image tag is referring to the profile owner image.

  • Hi Gerard. You're right, it should work with Event Manager. I finally figured out the issue, it seems my metatags was messed up due to Google's structured data wrongly placed on the page. Now, it is perfectly working cheers!

  • @ Gerard. I have been trying to figure out a small thing but with no luck so far.

Google result for my page looks something like this:

I am trying to figure out from where that 'dash(-)' comes from just before StudyClub(Please see img above)
    my setting looks  like this:

Secondly, I have uploaded the image SCIN.jpg at /_graphics so as per my understanding this image should be shown when I share my URL at say facebook but instead just the url is shown while sharing and nothing else. Am I missing something here?

    Please help.

  • @VGNTl, you should use the latest version of the plugin. I checked your website using Facebook Open Graph Object Debugger and there is something wrong. The metatags are not correct.

It should look like this   https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/og/object?q=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.centillien.com

The sharing of the image works, otherwise facebook might or might not take the picture you entered. As shown in the debug tool with your site, there are 3 images that could be used. https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/og/object?q=http%3A%2F%2Fstudyclub.in%2F

As to the dash, did you change any code in the plugin ? The code is not adding dashes for the frontpage, it exactly takes what is entered in the plugin settings.
