i also use the wire links pro for my website also ..but since upgrading to 1.8.18 it does not generate thumnails on the wire for my site i seriously think it requires upgrading.....i already message the plugin author hope he fixed This soon 

i messaged rj too and the company that generates the thumb nails listed above, if i get the update i will update this plugin if rj doesnt, at this time my thumbnails are working right now maye they fixed it

The website that generate the thumbnail server seems to be down....... and happened when i did upgrading.makes me think it is elgg....which i was wrong...... @rJ and ura soul....... i think it would be a good improvement if
1.two thumbnail generating would help in case one website generating the thumbnail goes down the other can serve as backup........
2. Is it possible to implement this plugin capabilities in bookmark plugin......

i was asking for the url of the webserver that generates the thumbnails. the description points to inmedianet - i am not able to locate a site with that name on google presently.

i already wrote a plugin that solves part 2 of your request @moneya.. though it uses 'shrink the web' as a service (which is not free).
i stopped coding that plugin when i realised that this needs to be done for free.
so maybe i will combine these 2 plugins soon.

i just looked through the code for this.. 

there are 2 issues immediately for me.

1. i am not sure how to save a bookmark without loading a form in elgg.. which means that maybe the way to grab wired urls into a bookmark object is to add a bookmark form in a lightbox or some other way - to allow users to add tags and a description etc.

2. the http://immediatenet.com service does not support https connections, which is a challenge for me as my whole site is https and i do not want to mix and match https with non https.

i have messaged the one who runs http://immediatenet.com and will see what they say about ways to use https (although they say they do not support it at all on their site).

oh.. the clincher, is that they do not allow incoming https links either.. so if you tried to share an https link then the thumbnail would not load.

i think we need to find a new site to use, can anyone tell me how and i will make a site for this i have lots of domains and hosting even a vps doing nothing right now lol

i found 3 contenders on github, 2 for diy thumbnail servers.. and 1 for an already existing server.

webthumbnail.org is the existing service.. though they appear to not support https either.

you don't technically need to create a server as such to use screenshots in elgg.. but if you are going to create a service for elggers to use, then these should work.
