Upgrade Elgg from 1.8.19 to 1.12.9

Just looking to see if it's possible to upgrade Elgg from 1.8.19 straight to 1.12.9? or is this too much of a quantum leap? What issues would probably happen?

No. Not possible. Upgrade one minor release at a time, i.e. 1.8.19 to latest 1.9, then to latest 1.10 etc.
From 1.10 to 1.12 it "might" work but I don't recommend it just to be on the safe side. If you leap over a minor release the upgrade might get stuck and in the worst case leaves your database in a broken state.
