The second link you write :) I tested it and there are no bugs now. At least I didn't found any.
The messages plugin that I released is not official.
@alfalive - In the past Elgg has not released often - maybe two months between versions (1.0 -> 1.1 -> 1.2). They don't release minor bug fixes (like a 1.5.1 and so on).

I have added some materials and I am planning on adding more. I am wondering if it best have a quick guide on top with more detailed instructions including screen shots walking one through the installer.
I think a quick guide followed by (or a link to) a more detailed instructions is a very good idea, Steve.

If you would like the sender of an Elgg notification to display properly in users external inbox (not as info@yourdomain.com or info), you need to set your site email address in the following format:
Name You want to Display <user@yourdomain.com>
I.e. go to Administration -> Site Administration
In Site email address (used when sending system emails), write your display name and email address in the above format. In case of Elgg community, you could say:
Elgg Community Notifier <community@elgg.org>
Elgg Community Notifier <community@elgg.org>
I have tried this and this is not takeing only name its takes whats in <> not taken
I had the same trouble, it would not accept the <>
You need to DISABLE the HTMLawed plugin and it will take... make sure to RE-ENABLE the HTMLawed plugin after you update your email settings!

Dear phil, I too didn't have any such intention.
Reworded, it looks fine , especially the addition "to work with elgg, to gather some (as I have had to) or will struggle until they have". It describes the whole process -- beginning as a beginner and go and go on, picking a piece of code-hack from here, and helping out a less-informed person there ...
Besides, I am fully aware that some Elggers like yourself spend hours here.

Thanks. Carlos or Dhrup has told me that. I feel it will be better if that part of the engine/settings.php file comes with a comment like "not implemented" or something to the effect, so that reckless people like me won't head into the 2-db temptation. LOL!

I sure that the documantation has improved greatly. I wish that the highly skilled elgg user, the ones that have no need for documentation will put some off their ime and effort into building a goodone.

Hello, I am new to elgg. I just discovered about it and love it. It is a great tool. I have successfully installed it on localhost. I need help with customizing the front page, which is the page a user logs in or registers. I simply need a manual on how to change/add things around, before log in and after log in. Can anyone point me to the right direction? Thank you.

What I care is optimization of this framework. I did a test with Elgg 1.2 on ngnix /PHP Fast-CGI / archlinux, Intel Duo Core T2330,1G DDR2 and with XCache,Zend Optimizer, Memcached, and I got 5 requests/seconds in Apache Benchmark. I think it's a terrible lacking of optimization in production used.
So I'd like to know the optimization issue in the new version.

Is there any sort of 'how to get started' stuff.
Paul, in the googdev group, experienced developer by the looks of it, successful install.
A section to give people some kind of start, an indication as to what they might want to do.
Just a thought :)
