btw, I can see that list of all members disappeared as well, I'm not sure wether this was intended. It was a nice feature to see how Elgg community is growing :)

+1 for a more streamlined way to create a discussion.  Even for people that know where to look it's cumbersome

I found Evan's "Questions" plugin to be useful as a discussion plugin, just had to change "question" to "discussion" and "answer" to "reply" in the language folder and include it in Menu Items...works fine. http://community.elgg.org/plugins/736567/1.8b1/questions-for-elgg-18?annoff=0

Can we remove the updates for people who 'updates avatar' or 'updates profile info'? That's kinda unnecessary information

For activity river - profile updates are not being sent. I removed friending last night. I'm working on other stuff right now, but if anyone wants to create a pull request to remove the avatar updates for the community_customizations repo on github, I'd certainly pull it in. See this commit for how I removed friending.

Seems the members menu should be re enabled. Two advantages

1. As vazco said, we can see how the community is growing. Before the upgrade to 1.8 the count of users was around 55-60K, now it is more than 80K. Is it correct?
2. The most common question asked by a newcomer is how many users can Elgg handle.
   We already have around 80K+ users for community and if it grows like this with in next month it may reach 100K and the community site itself will be a good answer to the question.
