I was doing some research and by mistake I entered 1.9 instead of 1.8 in google and found this:
http://trac.elgg.org/milestone/Elgg%201.9.0
It says it is due in three months, so my questions are:
What are the changes?
Should we start thinking in getting ready to update our current themes/plugins?

http://embrache.com/chkelggvers/ (i moved it here from old location since posting on that o-l-d topic http://community.elgg.org/discussion/view/729475/check-elgg-version-php) has whatever state i had that verificatoon parsing and scannng logic when i last left it.. make old plugins compatible with current elgg version ? not that would take some fair bit of heavy duty code and some pretty smarty parsing & formal grammers know-how - but.. can be done.. tho..
Can't find Tidypics for the current 1.8.6 version yet, I am sure I will get Tidypics for the 1.9 in my next birth :(
@Mike: it's nice of you to offer a event calendar plugin for free on your site. Unfortunately, I'm not able to download it, because your site's shopping plugin does not support free plugins. I'm not sure the plugin would match my need anyway. It's not only the features of the plugin that would need to match Kevin's event calendar plugin but it would also need to be fully compatible with this plugin to allow for upgrading from Elgg 1.7 to Elgg 1.8 with keeping the older events.
Anyway, I am aware that Kevin offers an Elgg 1.8 version of his event calendar plugin on github. Some other developers might also concentrate on upgrading their plugins but only made them available on github so far. All these plugins might be working nicely. But I think github is not a good choice of offering plugins to end-users. I see github aiming mainly on developers and very curious people who want to find out what direction a plugin is taking in the future and what new features might be available later. But it should not be forgotten to release a stable version of the plugins at some point when everything included in the plugin "should" work without issues on a given Elgg version.
iionly, the link I gave is a direct link to a file, it's not a link to the shop. You're right, our event_calendar don't have import from Kevin's plugin.
