At sign-up/registration, there has been failure for some users. It is inconsistent. Within minutes of a user receiving a failure (after he completed all required areas of the registration questions, and submitted, receiving only the user registration or sign on page--no validation), I had tested the registration process twice. One time I registered successfully and a message pop-up indicated I needed to validate my registration by clicking on my e-mail. A 2nd time I tried (again within minutes of a user's failure to register), I DID NOT receive a message indicating I was to validate with a link in my e-mail *Scratching my head. Can someone tell me why you think this would be happening. Since then, I have not tried to register because I am running out of e-mails to use, but my friend/assistant who is testing with me as I develop my site has tried registering with different e-mails & browsers. He has been unsuccessful EVERY time. He also checked out his spam--and nothing appears there.
Please advise. I would so appreciate any feedback you may have regarding this. Perhaps it is a plub-in/module that is installed for registration interfering with another plug-in? Please assist. I am concerned that when I go live this type of thing will continue to be a problem, and it will frustrate members.
Thank you. I really appreciate your time and expertise in this matter.
Candid

You must log in to post replies. You can use email address of the type candid@gmail.com and add-ons such as candid+a@gmail.com, candid+b@gmail.com, candid+c@gmail.co and so on to generate many email addressesfor yourself -- if you do have gmail - this will help to mass-test registering.
Emails which inconsistently do not appear to be sent/ received -- might be related to spam-looking emails -- e.g. if the register email is abcd@att.com -- att server might be detecting your elgg site's IP number as a spam originator (for reasons thta only att knows) and therefore block those emails without any further action or message - and you will not see the error replies unless youe Egg Site/Admin email address come to your own private email address.
Checking with your Hosting's Tech Support might reveal further clues to what is happening or reviewing the apache (if you're comfortable at that level) will perhaps show more detailed 'inside' info.
@Candid Ok, are you using a language package on your elgg network?

@ DhrupDeScoop: Thank you for your feedback. I can certainly try different e-mails, and that is not really the biggest problem I am having right now. It's mainly just that sometimes I can register...and sometimes a user cannot register--with multiple tries, different browsers, different profiles and usernames....
@rjcalifornia:
Thank YOU as well for your feedback. And the answer is "no", I am not using a language pack. What would a language pack do for me? Do you have a suggestion?

One important note is that sometimes we can sign-up/register as a new user...and sometimes not. Sometimes I registered and the e-mail didn't even need to be validated by the user. However, the avatar will not "stick"/stay when uploaded.
Hmmmm....?
Thanks,
Candid
Oh...and just one more thing. We don't use ATT, so we don't believe this is the problem...in addition to the fact that we can sign up SOMETIMES.
@ rjcalifornia & @DhrupDeScoop,
Hello there and Good day/eve!
I contacted my web-hosting service provider, and upon their checking into the details in the administration area of my website (area of the elgg application), they were unable to locate any settingt that would allow them to configure my application to use SMTP for sending emails to your users, leading them to believe that the issue of registration--per all discussions aforementioned--is related to what they provided me in their original reply to my inquiry into this problem--- the php mail() function.
My web-hosting service provider suggested that in order to resolve this issue I would have the following options:
1) Contact the application developers and request from them to release a patch for you in which they will include the option for SMTP mailing.
2) Search for a plugin which will provide you with such an option. Note that if you find some plugin we will install it for you.
Please, if you know of a plugin or patch that I can use/install so I may apply the option for SMTP mailing, I would greatly appreciate this information.
And thank you thus far for your technical support and feedback regarding this issue!
Sincerely,
Candid

Which third party plugins are you using?
I doubt it is due to a third party plugin, it sounds more like a server issue.
