This questions is already asked many times in cummunity discussions.
From last 4-5 days community.elgg.org is responding very quickly and dramatically improve in TTBF which is from 2.0-3.0 sec to 0.200-0.300 sec.
So my question is that what you guys done to improve that. I am also facing slow TTFB on my elgg based website, even I am on fast vps. I tried a lot to improve this but no success.
I will really help me if some one provide any info to improve this.
FYI:- I have two websites on same server but second website is responding 5x times better then elgg with same load.

Jeroen, where did you see/hear Cash's and Brett's solutions? I sent our suggestions to Cash I think two weeks ago, I didn't receive response from him yet. I guess he may be on vacation.
In our tests, in case of high concurrency, the best results were gained by optimizing DB. Just caching plugin settings gives 30% less queries. Caching metadata should give similar, if not better result. I guess this is what Cash and Brett suggested... This was in our report. In case those optimization suggestions came from us, mentioning this could be nice...
I have been away some and busy on other projects also. The 1.8.4 release should have a few optimizations in it. Many of those were based on a list that I created for Mike when he asked about speeding up Elgg. Others were long standing tickets (such as Jeroen's on caching language data). If you have been following the latest release announcements from us, you know that we view giving the appropriate credit as being very important.
Cash, thanks for a comment.
@Cash: Update services will be a core plugin in the future? I think that is a essential plugin. I thought about a "elgg essentials" release or something like this. A package with core plugins and the most used, like tidypics and invite friends.
Well, lets open a new thread to discuss it. :)
@rayj ahah :) nice idea.. i guess a lot of us think alike.. take a look at: http://community.elgg.org/mod/community_plugins/image.php?guid=823619
To bring this back around to the OP's question, the only changes I made were to our server config. We're not running any sort of specially optimized version of Elgg. I still plan to write the blog post, but have been very busy the last few days so haven't had a chance.
Fresh installation is works fast but when we install other plugins then the site goes slow!
Looking forward to it when you do get the time, thanks Brett
