Friend Request Problems

Hello, I've been testing out my Elgg site lately, and I found something weird with sending friend request.
When I go to someone on my site and click 'Add Friend' it just adds the person to my friends list, not even asking the person if they want to be friends.
Does anyone know how to fix this or if there is a plugin that fixes this. (Also, I'm running on 1.8.1)
I don't really know how to upgrade it from 1.8.1 to 1.8.2

Oh ok.
But I've used the Friend Request plugin and it really screwed with my Elgg. (It made users Settings page not work)
I'm using it on a number of installations without issue, give it another try.
@Matt Is there a Friend Request plugin for Elgg 1.8?
