cant edit profile in 1.8

Hi,
I have done a fresh install of 1.8 to try it out and for some reason every time I click edit profile it just sends me back to the dashboard, I have tried doing it with diffrent themes aswell but still get the same result.
Has this happend to anyone else?
Cheers

  • Here is something interesting:

    a. Deactivate the plugin "profile 1.8"

    b. Paste http://...../elgg/profile/admin/edit in the URL bar to edit the user profile

    c. You will now be able to edit the profile

    d. Activate plugin "profile 1.8" again.

    e. You will no longer be able to edit the profile, but you will be able to see the new data you entered when you edited it.

I don't know why this is happening. Perhaps some of you could help.

  • Thank you. That's the piece of information that I needed. Fix is here: https://github.com/Elgg/Elgg/commit/57e3793a560b9b376b037d5bfe3f1aafaa90c78d

It will be part of the 1.8.2 release

  • @Cash:  Thank you very much. It works great now.

One other thing. After incorporating the fix, I deactivated "profile 1.8". At this stage, it is not possible to edit the profile from the profile page. However, one can always get to the edit profile page by through the menu that come up when the mouse hovers over the avatar picture (in both the profile page and the activity page). From a functionality perspective, by deactivating the plugin, these menu entries should also be removed.

  • I've been following this as part of another issue I'm having with the avatars displaying.... which is in another thread but not getting many looks.

I have elgg 1.8.1  on http://www.grievingchildrenlighthouse.org/elgg/  and its pretty much original

The uploading of the avatar is working fine and the files are getting uploaded and I can see them all.

When I have the profile 1.8 plugin enabled the avatars don't show up, just the grey default one.  Disable the plugin and the avatars show up fine at least the tiny ones.... can't see the main page since the plugin is disabled.   I did make the change you posted on github.... in mod/profile/start.php  but it made no difference to my issue.  Any clues as to why the avatars don't show up.... I'm going to leave the profile 1.8 plugin  enabled....
