A co-operative social network

I'm very interested in co-operatives; I think it's a better way of doing business than the traditional shareholder owned corporation.
I'd like to set up a co-operative social network. It would be member owned and run.
To do this I need
- at least 3 other people (preferably in the UK) to register a co-op
- £40 to register the co-op
- £80 to buy socialnetwork.coop
- $5 a month for the hosting
Happy to stump up the cash if there are others who are interested.
I would expect co-op members to pay a small fee (a couple of $ probably) towards the maintenance of the site and in return they wouldn't get advertised at. That said I'd look for sponsorhip/advertising from other co-ops.

It would just be a co-operative alternative to Facebook.
It would allow users to properly own their data and not have someone profiting from their friendships.

I am open for registrations but unfortunately it's down at the moment. THis is exactly why I need some more members of this co-operative - preferably with some decent technical skills. Hi Charlie. Are you still interested in working on this project? I am seriously thinking of starting something similar and have researched enought to have a pretty good picture as to how it should be structured and is in line with what you are posting. To really make this happen it would take a pretty large effort and some significant development money. Let me know if you are still interested and want to chat.
