Creating a Facebook Fan Page style site
Hi all,
I know this is a bit out of the Elgg communities discussion range but I'm hoping you can help me out. I am wanting to create a private fan page-like site for kids and classrooms in the States to communicate with me about life in a rural village in Thailand (I'm a Peace Corps volunteer). I want a semi-social network but focused on a single wall, admin only can blog and post to the main wall, users can post to a central discussion wall, friend each other, browse profiles, upload photos with admin approval (stong photo management capability is key, something Wordpress is lacking) and post comments. Like Personality FB fan pages. I demo'd (sp?) Elgg and, although it seems a very powerful script, it is more Profile, rather than Fan Page oriented ie. everyone has their own wall etc. Do any of you site designers have suggestions for scripts that might fit my need? I have demo'd Elgg, Dolphin, Wordpress+Mingle, Buddypress but my highspeed bandwidth is limited here so the search is getting difficult. Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.

You must log in to post replies.It would be fairly easy to write a plugin that does this. An example of highlighting only a single aspect of Elgg's tools is our blog: http://blog.elgg.org/ This is highly focused on the blog. That's accomplished with a plugin.
If you are comfortable digging in and doing some custom development, you can definitely do this with Elgg. I think most social networks scripts are going to be activity focused, so you'll probably need to do some amount of development for anything you pick.
