Start by browsing thru the general Groups where such matters have been discussed already, pick up on tioughts and ideas posted before by many many interested people..
i have uploaded elgg 1.7.10 and installed it too . It did this successfully ,but now it is giving an error after i try to login or register . The error is :-
SSL connection error
Unable to make a secure connection to the server. This may be a problem with the server, or it may be requiring a client authentication certificate that you don't have.

Yes, I think you activated ssl login by accident. Here is a guide on how to fix that: Here
