Could you clear all the files and reupload a new elgg package? The redirection can happend due to some bad scripts you may be using.
I have the same problem!!!! I have already deleted all files and restored them from my backup, i restored the mysql database. Nothing helped!!! Does anyone have an idea??? The only scripts I used are elgg plugins from the elgg website... When I use a simple index.htm file instead of elggs index.php, the index file is shown correct, so the DNS must be ok.
scan your code and db for base64 injections...
If you are on freehostings, this can happen.
The server my elgg website is running, is the one of our school. it is a windows server 2008 R2 with iis7. The elgg version is 1.7.8.
How can I scan my code and db for base64 injections?

This may have something to do with Elgg plugins. If you have the same problem, please post here the latest 5 plugins that you installed.
Mine:
1 - Tag cumulus
2 - Turn off elgg registrations
3 - Custom Index

5 - I don't remember
Some quick questions.
Firstly, my site has been working for months. I have not altered it but it started redirecting. I'm not sure it is plugin related but....
I just did some searching with firebug and it seems the code below is generating the redirect.
<?php
echo $feedref;
echo elgg_view('metatags',$vars);
?>
This is in the header.php file in page_elements folder. Once I delete it, the redirects are gone. I am not over elgg enough to track this to the source though. Any ideas??
