Here is what I slapped together in abt 5 minutes of coding and..
I've only coded abt only 15 minutes with Elgg 1.8 before this..
Elgg has progressed since vers 1.0 because some developers
have hiked up their sleeves and coded and coded ;-P
;-) after that quick n dirty proof code -
i reckoned i oughta look at the proper way of doing the upgrade -
so looked up the *menu system hover-over etc stuff inside 1.8 lolz
i shudda read into that b4. v.1.8 kind makes hooking into the menu 'views'
somewhat of a breeze. all you other coders out there shud
look into some of these areas in 1.8 internals.

Is there any documentation you can point me toward for the menu system? I'll be needing that soon...
Part 1: http://blog.elgg.org/pg/blog/cash/read/171/elggs-new-menu-system-registering-a-menu-item
Part 2: not up yet
Source: https://github.com/Elgg/Elgg/blob/master/engine/lib/navigation.php (reasonable amount of documentation)
Some good information, looking forward to part 2. Thanks for the links!
good lawdy - i copied the 1.8b1 login-as plugin code over to 1.8b2,
thinking of sprucing it up properly for 1.8 and..
dwanged thing seems broken !
back to the drawing board to figure what the heck i did to the code
some weeks ago ;-)
i'll get back onto it after some rather urgent jobs on my desk right now ;-oO
while i'm on here..
I've had 1/2 a mind (that's all i expect it to take;)
of giving a shot to create a 1.8 styled proper elgg event entity
( as evan i think had suggested )..
any thoughts towards what/how the design and the data structures should be ?
right now i'm thinking of a basic extended elgg object,
with some elementary specific attributes for 'events' -
which will leave further enhancement and customization open..
Just for a laugh I thot I'd do the same UI experiment patch for 1.8 that I did years ago on Elgg 0.8 and 1.0 ;-P Here it is ;-oO The header-contents site logo. Took about 1/100th of the effort and time as the first Elgg 'newbie' trials circa 2008 ;-)
