Depends upon client interest and funding. It won't be for a few months in any case. Elgg 1.8 has not been released yet.

Only the beta has been released.  I suspect Kevin was referring to 1.8 final.

Although to be fair, some of us are using 1.8 now -- after all how are you supposed to beta test something if not via active use? ;)

Any ideas where some of the key areas the plug in needs to be updated? I suppose I'll go have a look. Also there is one gentleman on the site who claims to have updated event calendar and also tidypics as well. Google around for him. 

@Evan Can we request a calendar plugin(like event calendar) to the Elgg Tracker? It would be nice to have this in the Elgg Core.

oblivionboy, None of the clients who have funded the event calendar have requested an Elgg 1.8 version. When they do I will put it into my development schedule.

Just to add that when it is funded I will do a proper rewrite for 1.8 - not just hack the code to sort of get it working. A proper rewrite will take some time.

I think that adding some core support for events as Evan suggests in this Trac ticket makes some sense, but not a core event calendar plugin. Although lots of people want events in their sites, everyone seems to want something different, which is one reason the event calendar plugin has a zillion options.

The core team has enough already on their plate!
