AJAXifying Elgg
Hello, all!
As the GSoC coding period is going to start soon, I am trying to make a list of all the possible areas which have to be AJAXified the most. Basing upon the list, I will be opening tickets on the tracker, which will be fixed during the coding period. So, I request you all to give suggestions about the places that can constitute this list. Please feel free to mention about the interfaces which you want to see AJAXified. Your feedback will be of great help to me!
I came up with a list which I feel, contains all the basic actions which everyone wants to get AJAXified.
- Adding / Deleting a wire post
- Replying to a wire post
- Liking / Disliking an entity object
- Commenting on a Blog post, Page
- Deleting a Blog post
- Viewing comments for a Blog post
- Deleting a Bookmark
- Marking a message as ‘read’ in messages plugin
- Deleting a message
- River selection in Activity tab
- Commenting on a river item
- Suggestions while searching
- All/Mine/Friends filter tabs
- Loading next set of paginated river items
- Switching between tabs on the home page

Some of these are already Ajaxed. You can find an Ajaxed wire plugin in the plugin repo for example.
@Trajan, Ravindra is work on adding ajax to core Elgg. This is your opportunity to suggest things to add to the list and/or give your priority rankings.

I am going to work on AJAXifying of basic actions of Elgg as part of GSoC project. They will be included in the core in the future releases. You can share your suggestions on what all actions you want to see ajaxified.

it is very appriciating Job you are doing, Everybody is compaining like elgg is slow and has too many database queries, and now after this fix , that problem will also solve.
The main problem is seen when some one open a user profile or group profile. for example A user open another users profile it shows a list of links under his profile pic, when some one click on those links like blogs then it need to show his blogs on same page but it redirect you to another page of his blogs which need a full page refresh, again he need to come back to previous page to click on another links.
This problem is little bit fixed on 1.8 beta by adding menu to all pages but need to fix same like EVAN did in facebook style theme for 1.8.
Me and Lord already talked here about tabbed user profile and tabbed group profile which is a good solution to fix this and reduce server load.
BTW thanks a ton to think about issue. I will post more things if I get but lots are already in your list.
