To make a native app, you would need an API for your website: http://docs.elgg.org/wiki/Web_Services.

Otherwise, you could build a web app, in which case you should read up on Elgg viewtypes: http://docs.elgg.org/wiki/Engine/Views

@Emanuel Here is a plugin: http://community.elgg.org/pg/plugins/project/710476/developer/odutel/seesmic-desktop-for-elgg-17 which allows you to create you app for your desktop or phone (android) May be it can be useful for you.

I'm still searching for a similar site to make an iphone or windows phone app. I've tried this site http://mobilecp.conduit.com but it only really shows rss feeds from elgg, and a lot of the feeds don't contain all of the elgg content. If anybody else knows of any good sites that will create iphone or windows phone apps for free I'd like to know about them.

I know this is basic but check out http://code.google.com/p/php-mobile-detect/. Then you can design it yourself
