Hi, I am new to elgg. I found the latest recommended release for download is 1.7.8. However, it seems all the tutorials are based on 1.8 and there are quite a few changes.
Could anyone let me know if there is an 1.7 version of tutorial (I do find the Hello tutorial but not the others). Or it is recommended to work on 1.8 now?
Many thanks in advance!

You must log in to post replies.Hi, apeforest,
Welcome to Elgg! Did you see the notes on what has changed at the bottom of each tutorial? If so, are you finding these to be insufficient?
Hi Evan,
They are useful as a small tip. But for elgg new users like me they do not work quite well. For example, I could not get the blog tutorial and index page tutorial work by following the tutorial of 1.8 and changing some of the APIs to 1.7 version. The APIs have quite different argument list in addition to their new names. And it seems the usages are different too. It is not sufficient to just replace that single line of API with 1.7 version in the notes.
So I think a 1.7 tutorial is still very helpful. For example the 1.7 version of Hello tutorial can work well.
Thanks for the help!
OK, I noticed that elgg_view_form in particular was not documented for the blog tutorial, so I have added that documentation. I have also added documentation for the new functions in the Custom Index tutorial.
Let me know if this helps -- I'd like to avoid supporting parallel versions if at all possible.
I have also added links to the state of the tutorials before I started editing them for 1.8. Hope that helps!
Great, this is the quickest response I've ever got in a forum!!
Thanks for the help and Elgg is a great environment for developers.
Where did you find the tutorial?
Thanks.
