I need an experienced programmer to make my site user friendly. Currently, users can not tell how to make friend connections or how to join groups. the current set up is very confusing. I need to change the lay out. When people log in, they should not only be able to see activity, but also be able to see what groups are available, new videos,...ect. for example something like this..... http://elgg.com/features.php#5 . I also want them to be able to access and post to twitter and facebook without leaving my site.
This is a free site for users, so my budget is limited.

You must log in to post replies.use the standard dashboard (not riverdashboard) and set some default widgets. Problem solved, no cost.
Well, not if you need more sophistication ...
There are various plugins in the community that, used in conjuction, would help you acheive what you want.
Jeroen's Widget Manager (For controlling what appears on Home Page, Profile and Dashboard)

Jeroen's Login Redirector (For controlling which page appears after login)

Ejucovy"s First Login Redirector and first time events plugins (For controlling which page appears following members' very first login)
