I am currently involved in updating one of our plugins to Elgg 1.8. To this end I have installed Elgg from trunk and it seems that it is very broken in IE6.
What is the plan for IE6 support in Elgg 1.8? Is support being dropped altogether (which would be an issue as many corporate users still use IE6), or is the IE6 support being worked in towards the end of the release (although there doesn't appear to be a trac ticket for it)?
I have tried googling but have found no information yet (I guess Elgg 1.8 isn't on the corporate radar yet).
Thanks,
Ash

Elgg 1.8 is targeting modern browsers so I would be very surprised if it supported IE6. As I'm sure that you are aware, Google and Facebook have both dropped support for IE 6. (Maybe even Microsoft has actually.)
For the time being, I suppose you could keep using Elgg 1.7.x.
It may be that someone will develop and release an IE6 compatible theme at some point for Elgg 1.8 but I doubt that this would be a priority for the core developers.
Microsoft strongly recommends that customers using Internet Explorer 6 or Internet Explorer 7, upgrade to Internet Explorer 8 as soon as possible ...

We have not put any effort towards making Elgg compatible with IE6 yet. If we do make it compatible it will be no higher than grade C.
From my knowledge, statistics of usage of IE6 are close to percentage of people not having JavaScript. I don't think it's required to support IE6 any more (finally).
