Blog save draft bug

Has anyone encountered the following problem.
If I want to edit a blog post several times and click Publish when done everything works fine.
If I click save draft and then click Publish, I'm not able to edit anymore since the blog post is empty in next edit mode.

Let me get on the boat on this one.
Elgg 1.7.7.7
Publish->Edit...all the text is there
Publish->Edit->Save Draft->Edit...text is gone in the editing boxes but the blog content still shows up in the list of blogs.
Same results with a modified Elgg install and an original install
I found a supposed solution on bugtracker but I dont have the php page that is specified.

maybe that solution is for 1.8?

Elgg 1.7.8 fixes this
I will just cherry pick the blog folder and test it. Probably being over cautions.
I will do some reading to see what other fixes are implemented in 1.7.8 as I am out of the loop on upgrades.
