Closed Group privacy settings not working properly

I am using elgg 1.7.4, but have an issue with group privacy settings.

If I have a Closed Group, but some of the information that group owns is set to "Public", the information does not show and is not accessible from that groups profile page, for example pages with additional info about the group, or photos and viseos etc, but they are accessible from the menu bar route or the general search tool.

Is this normal or do I have another plugin conflicting with the permissions somehow?  I really need to fix this, so any help would be much appreciated.

  • Any ideas or answers to this issue please???

  • Mark, can you give me a temporary invitation to your private group? I just want to see how it looks and also get to know about your problems first hand. Just for a few days and you can delete me :)

  • ok forget it.

my site doesn't permit closed groups.

  • I can't understand why no one else has come back on this... I really need some help... PLEASE!

@Shillo... sorry I did not get back sooner, but I guess you have moved on.

The private group - requiring an invitaion or approval to join looks like any other, and is set in the "edit group" settings - it is a part of the standard core Groups plugin.

When viewed without being a member the view is truncated... the logo and description info shows, but no widgets.  If nav links are clicked it comes up with "you must be a member to view this", but for some things set to "public" can be viewed by the topbar menu dropdowns for files, pages, photos etc

When viewed without being a member the view is truncated... i.e. the logo and description info shows, but no widgets which is fine if there is NO public content.  If nav links are clicked it comes up with "you must be a member to view this".

But for any group content set to "public" should be visible whether the viewer is a member of that group or not.  It can be viewed by the topbar menu dropdowns for files, pages, photos etc, BUT IT DOES NOT showup in the group view.
